It begins with attention.

Small movements. Space to respond.

Attention begins with the smallest things. The pace. The pressure. The space between movements.

Room for your own experience.

The body is not forced. It is given time.

Pauses are part of the practice. There is no sensation you are expected to feel and no result you need to produce.

What is Bowen?

A gentle hands-on technique.

Bowen uses gentle rolling-type movements over specific areas of muscle and connective tissue, with pauses between sequences. It is a complementary practice, and its clinical evidence is limited and uncertain.

Discover Bowen
A different kind of touch.

Bowen is distinct from massage, chiropractic and acupuncture. It does not involve needles or forceful joint manipulation. Gentle does not mean suitable for everyone; discuss suitability with a qualified healthcare professional.

Care, with honesty

Clear about what we know.

Bowen has a practice tradition. That is different from evidence of clinical effectiveness. Current research is limited, and findings do not justify promises of treatment or cure.

Explore the evidence
Trust begins with clarity.

Who is working with you. What training they have completed. What a session involves. These are details you should be able to check, not promises you should have to accept.

A practice with a history. An open conversation today.

Bowen therapy is named after Australian practitioner Thomas Bowen. Its development and later teaching belong to the history of the method; they do not establish its effectiveness.

Your questions

A little more clarity.

All questions
What should I wear?

Bowen can be performed through light clothing. Comfortable, loose clothing is a practical starting point. Confirm any requirements with the practitioner before your visit.

How long is a session?

Session duration is individual and discussed when arranging your visit. Please confirm the current fee before agreeing to an appointment.

Will I lie down?

Sessions commonly take place on a treatment table. Position and comfort should be discussed with the practitioner. Ask about access or adjustments before booking.

Why are there pauses?

Pauses separate sequences of movements and are a characteristic part of Bowen practice. Explanations about how the body responds are practitioner theories, not established clinical mechanisms.

Can Bowen replace medical care?

No. Bowen does not replace appropriate medical evaluation or treatment. Discuss new, persistent or worsening symptoms with a qualified healthcare professional.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no guaranteed number or outcome. Any proposed follow-up should be discussed openly, with costs, your preferences and the limits of evidence in mind.
